How To Choose The Right Indoor LED Module A Quick Guide

Mar 20, 2026

Selecting the right indoor LED module isn’t just about finding the lowest price. For AV integrators and architectural designers, it’s about matching the hardware to the specific environment.

If you are planning an indoor video wall, here is a quick, 4-step checklist to ensure you choose the perfect display.

1. Determine the Right Pixel Pitch

The golden rule of LED displays is simple: 1mm of pixel pitch equals roughly 1 meter of optimal viewing distance.

P0.9 to P1.5: Best for corporate boardrooms, control centers, and TV studios where the audience is very close to the screen.

P1.8 to P2.5: The industry sweet spot. Perfect for luxury retail stores, hotel lobbies, and churches.

P3.0 and above: Ideal for high-hanging digital signage in shopping malls where viewers are far away.

2. Choose Between SMD and COB Technology

SMD (Surface-Mounted Device): The traditional, cost-effective choice. It offers excellent color performance and is great for standard flat video walls.

COB (Chip-on-Board): The premium upgrade. COB features a seamless resin coating, providing True Black contrast and making it highly resistant to impact, dust, and moisture. If your screen is in a high-traffic area, COB is the ultimate choice.

3. Assess Your Architectural Shape

Are you building a standard flat wall, or wrapping a column? If your design includes curves, waves, or cylinders, standard rigid modules won't work. You will need Flexible LED Modules (Soft Modules). These use highly flexible PCB boards and magnetic mounting to seamlessly bend around complex structures without distorting the image.

4. Insist on Front Maintenance

Indoor screens are usually mounted flush against a wall, making rear access impossible. Always choose modules with a 100% front-serviceable design. This allows technicians to easily remove a module from the front using a simple magnetic tool, drastically reducing downtime and labor costs during maintenance.
